- The University of Illinois College of Medicine is planning on implementing curriculum aligned with DEI concepts. All incoming students will have required reading and discussion centered on anti-racism. Additionally, the Anti-Racism Urgent Action Committee was formed. See developments below:

The school has a "Medical School Curriculum" subcommittee which will "plan the summer anti-racism reading/discussion group for incoming students and plan roll out across all phases" and "focus on reviewing the current curriculum content in all phases to remove biases and inaccuracies, identify deficiencies/omission (that need to be added into the curriculum) and to continue to incorporate the social determinants of health into the materials being taught."

The Department of Pediatric 2022-2027 Strategic Plan states that it would "[c]ontinue to incorporate themes of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion into all educational curriculums."

As part of its DEI Strategic Planning webpage, UI COM reported that it has "developed & implemented the Anti-Racism Curriculum (ARC) Program with the support of faculty and peer-to-peer [and] medical student tutors."

The College of Medicine has a subcommittee on "Faculty and Staff Development." The school states, "This college-wide subcommittee will develop and present faculty and staff education around being active in the anti-racism culture. Education on racial inequities, micro aggressions, caring for diverse patient populations, improving teaching techniques/content that is free of bias and encouraging engagement of active bystanders will be some of the content presented to faculty and staff in order to improve the environment for students and other members of the college community."

As part of its DEI Strategic Planning webpage, UI COM reported that it has "conducted 2-years of implicit bias reduction training for faculty & staff over all campuses."

The College of Medicine created an "Anti-Racism Urgent Action Committee." Within this structure lies the creation of a Steering Committee and various subcommittees for more specific goals.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement awards UIC College of Medicine Faculty with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award “to recognize extraordinary contributions and commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

On September 29, 2022, the School of Public Health at UIC held a Distinguished Lecture with the Public Health Critical Race Praxis: Perspectives on the Intersection of COVID and Critical Race Theory with Chandra L Ford, who id the founding director of the Center for the Study of Racism, Social Justice and Health.
