- Massachusetts Maritime Academy was founded in 1891 and is the second oldest state institution for maritime education in the United States. "The mission of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy is to provide a quality education for graduates serving in the merchant marine, the military services, and those who serve the interests of the Commonwealth, Nation and global marketplace. The Academy does so by combining a rigorous academic program with a regimented lifestyle that instills honor, responsibility, discipline, and leadership" (Source: https://www.maritime.edu/mission-planning). The student to faculty ratio is 15 to 1. The total undergraduate enrollment is nearly 1,700 and the academy offers 7 undergraduate degrees in 5 fields of study.
- General Information
- The Massachusetts Maritime Academy has created a "President's Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion." The academy has also set goals to incorporate inclusive excellence in school policies and planning. At this time, no mandatory Critical Race Training is required of all students. However, see developments below:

Program and Research Funding
The academy has a goal to "advance a common agenda for Inclusive Excellence that aligns institutional strategies with statewide initiatives to transform diversity, equity, and inclusion in every facet of the institution. The focus areas of this common agenda include recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students of color, a climate of inclusion, enhanced community engagement, and review of university infrastructure."
