General Information
The university has offered anti-racist resources to its students. The Women's Center includes a lending library for Critical Race Theory resources. No Critical Race Training sessions are yet required of students. See developments below:

Actions Taken

Anti-Racism, Bias, and Diversity Training
  • The Minnesota State University Moorhead Training Our Campus Against Racism (TOCAR) anti-racism initiative had held multiple “anti-racism trainings and developed anti-racism teams” to develop campus anti-racism plans.
Curriculum Changes and Requirements
  • As part of the Bachelors degree core curriculum and general education requirements, the university requires all undergraduates to have completed one course from “Goal 7: Human Diversity,” where students will be educated on racism and diversity.
  • As part of Component 1 from the MSUM DEI Strategic Plan 2022-2025, the university will encourage inclusive curricula by conducting “training for faculty and staff for inclusive curricula through an intersectional framework.”
Disciplinary Measures
  • The MSUM Bias Incident Response Team is a group funded by the university and is “comprised of students, staff, faculty, and administrators who serve as a resource for members of the campus community who have experienced a bias incident.”
Faculty/Staff Requirements
  • As part of the job description for the Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management position at Minnesota State University Moorhead, applicants are expected to promote the “University’s recruitment, retention, and diversity goals” towards “Minnesota State’s Equity 2030 goal, to close educational equity gaps.”
Program and Research Funding
  • MSUM’s Assistant Athletics Director, Nolan Schmidt, was selected to participate in the College Sports Communicators Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship for the 2023-24 academic school year where he is “one of a record 20 members who are slated to study issues surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion in athletics communications and within college athletics overall.”
  • Minnesota State University’s Equity 2023 initiative “involves equity-minded collaboration with community partners to establish an inclusive, safe, and anti-racist environment on Minnesota State campuses.”
  • Minnesotat State University Moorhead conducted a campus wide student survey on the Training Our Campuses Against Racism initiative called the “TOCAR Collaborative Campus and Community Climate Survey for Students” that was funded by the Otto Bremer Foundation.
  • MSUM offers a “variety of diversity scholarships for current and incoming students.”
  • The Access, Opportunity, and Success Scholars Program at MSUM is available for students from underserved or underrepresented populations and is part of the university’s Equity 2030 initiative.
  • The SMART Start Program at MSUM offers a number of benefits to students from underserved and underrepresented populations including early move-in, academic and social programming and connections, and academic placement benefits.
  • The MSUM Equity by Design (EBD) workgroup is “comprised of campus administrators, students and faculty, ultimately wants to eliminate the ‘equity gap’ between racial identities, formally known as the achievement gap.”

  • The University Library provides numerous resources on Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism, and Social Justice.
  • The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the university hosts four different centers with specialized programming and resources on diversity, inclusion, bias, and racial inequities.
  • Minnesota State University Moorhead provides a Diversity by Unit map of all the departments at the university that identifies each unit’s level of diversity engagement and actions being taken.
  • As part of MSUM DEI Strategic Plan 2022-2025 Component 2: Financial Resources, the university will “retain more underrepresented students” and “increase the number of awards for underrepresented students.”

  • As part of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, “Minnesota State University Moorhead strives to create a campus community that is diverse, inclusive, globally aware, and just” and “welcoming to students and employees who have historically been under-served by higher education.”
