- “Since 1881, NJIT has been committed to academic excellence. The school has a total enrollment that exceeds 12,000 students (Source: https://www.njit.edu/about/key-facts). Furthermore, “as the state’s public polytechnic university, we continue to invest in the renewal of our existing facilities in addition to adding new spaces, with the goal of providing an exceptional teaching, learning and living environment. NJIT offers more than 125 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in six specialized schools instructed by expert faculty, 98 percent of whom hold the highest degree in their field” (Source: https://www.njit.edu/about).
- General Information
- NJIT has engaged in many DEI actions and initiatives. This includes establishing the DEI Committee. Furthermore, the school offers a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate program. The school hosts an annual Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging University Forum as well. Training programs are offered, but are not required at this time. See developments below:

On February 18, 2021, it was announced that NJIT is launching the Hispanic and Latinx Leadership Council in order to “advise, counsel and support NJIT’s drive to increase its percentage of Hispanic and Latinx undergraduates from 20% to 25% by 2025 and thereby qualify to earn the federal designation of being Hispanic-serving.”

On June 29, 2023, NJIT's president issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court's ruling on affirmative action which reads in part as follows: "Though NJIT should not be affected, because our admissions process is of a holistic nature and predominantly focused on assessing a student’s ability to succeed at our university, the court’s decision presents a broader concern. While race should never be used as a condition to preclude anyone from opportunities, institutions of higher education must seek to construct learning environments that provide maximum benefit to their students. Diversity of all types–racial, gender, cultural, socio-economic, religious, etc.–is essential for the optimization of the educational experience and is something we value deeply at NJIT."

- Anti-Racism, Bias, and Diversity Training

NJIT’s Innovation Institute has a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate program which offers training on DEI topics. The program “provides key fundamentals to transform your organization’s workplace culture into an inclusive environment where everyone thrives.”

NJIT offers Interactive Diversity Activities including programs and workshops.

NJIT launched a program for “leadership and bias-mitigation training” in 2021. This was “a component of the NSF-funded NJECC that aims to broaden participation in cybersecurity through leadership training for cybersecurity students and data-driven, bias-mitigation training for students and faculty at NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing.”

The "Diversity leadership training for students" program is a "series of interactive workshops...in which a DEIB trainer helps students, particularly underrepresented minorities and women, develop the soft skills needed to thrive and advance in the workplace."

NJIT outlines its bias reporting protocols and states the following: "A bias incident can be defined as an act(s) committed against a person that is motivated by bias or prejudice. Bias incidents can be in the form of verbal, written, physical, or psychological acts or behaviors that threaten or harm a person or group on the basis of actual or perceived race, religion, color...."

The Technology, Gender, and Diversity Minor at NJIT is "designed to enable students to expand their understanding of how society shapes technology and how gender, race, and ethnicity shape society."

The New Jersey Equity in Commercialization Collective at NJIT is "[f]unded by a $1.24 million grant from the National Science Foundation" and "aims to identify and eliminate systematic barriers for women and underrepresented minorities and increase the diversity of academic researchers in STEM who participate in the state’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem."

The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering offers DEI resources in support of its goals to “advocate for institutional change towards a more inclusive environment for all” and “raise awareness about inequalities/injustices faced by the University community” among other goals.
