School Information
"NCTC was officially established May 20, 1924 — making it the oldest continuously operating two-year college in Texas today! Originally named Gainesville Junior College, the school was founded by Randolph Lee Clark, a man with a family legacy in higher education and a true pioneer of public community college education in Texas" (Source: http://www.nctc.edu/about-us/index.html). The college has a total enrollment of over 10,000 with a student to faculty ratio of 22 to 1. NCTC offers 11 degree and certificate programs.
General Information
North Central Texas College has set in place several different changes as part of their program initiatives. The college has an Office of Academic Diversity and Inclusion that "will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to implement, and maintain policies, processes, procedures and training designed to support diversity and inclusion practices in the classroom which foster student engagement and success" (Source: https://www.nctc.edu/equity-diversity-inclusion-division/office-of-academic-diversity-inclusion/index.html). NCTC partnered with Achieving The Dream to found the Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, which has several goals as outlined below. No mandatory Critical Race Training sessions are yet required of students. However, see developments below:

Actions Taken

Anti-Racism, Bias, and Diversity Training
  • NCTC has started programming called Courageous Conversations in order to "understand and minimize biased and divisive beliefs for the benefit of the campus community and beyond."
Program and Research Funding
  • A National Science Foundation grant was awarded to North Central Texas College to increase equity and inclusion in engineering.
Resources
  • As part of the Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion's initiative, NCTC has set in place an equity plan that "will help create a supportive work and learning environment, and eliminate equity gaps in student achievement across the College."
  • NCTC has partnered with Achieving the Dream (ATD) for student success through an equity lens by working “toward bridging the gaps between students and their success by lowering or eliminating achievement gaps for all minority students throughout the college community, including graduation course completion, course success, and retention rates.”
  • Diversity is a key component of the NCTC Strategic Plan where the college “ensures equity and embraces diversity and inclusion in all aspects of NCTC life.
  • In Spring 2022, NCTC held workshops on strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom. Takeaways from these workshops are available online.
  • NCTC has gathered a number of resources in its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Resource Hub.
Symbolic Actions
  • NCTC’s Division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) is committed “to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive learning environment.”
