General Information
Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) has implemented an initiative called "My T.I.M.E." This initiative will offer a two-part webinar series, the first part covering implicit bias training and the second part covering micro-aggressions. No mandatory Critical Race Training sessions are yet required of students. However, see developments below:

Actions Taken

Anti-Racism, Bias, and Diversity Training
  • The college offers a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion course as part of the Workforce, Economic, and Community Development Program.
Resources
  • PHCC will be providing a community program called "My TIME" which will offer one class on implicit bias and another on microaggressions.
  • PHCC has a Diversity Statement about their commitment towards a “culture of diversity and inclusion that empowers anyone from anywhere to be successful in their academic and professional pursuits.”
Symbolic Actions
  • The Virginia State Board of Community Colleges permitted “Patrick Henry Community College to change its name to Patrick & Henry Community College, honoring Patrick County and Henry County,” rather than “Patrick Henry, the first and sixth governor of Virginia, who owned slaves.” The college agreed to disassociate itself from the historical figure.
