General Information
Shenandoah University is offering students various anti-racist resources. It will be offering an "Anti-Racism and Racial Justice Workshop" as part of its Black History Month programming. No mandatory Critical Race Training sessions are yet required of students. However, see developments below:

Admissions Policies
  • One of the university's "Diversity Action Items" is to "[r]ecruit and retain diverse undergraduate and graduate students...."
Anti-Racism, Bias, and Diversity Training
  • The university will be offering an "Anti-Racism and Racial Justice Workshop" as part of its Black History Month programming.
  • The university is offering "Racial Justice" training.
  • Shenandoah states that "[a]ll those who lead searches for new employees as well as search committees should take the Diversity in Hiring workshop through PRIDE (President’s Representatives for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) PRIOR to starting their search." Workshops "cover implicit bias, common barriers in hiring diverse candidates, and best practices for increasing the diversity of your candidate pool."
  • Diversity Workshop topics for students and faculty include "Diversity, Inclusion, and Racial Justice" and "Responding to Bias and Offensive Comments."
  • One of the goals of the Mosaic Center for Diversity is to "[e]ducate the campus community on topics of culture, diversity, and social justice in order to foster and sustain a supportive campus environment."
Curriculum Changes and Requirements
  • All first-time students at Shenandoah take courses from the "Going Global Offerings" which focus on multi-culturalism and diversity.
Disciplinary Measures
  • The university outlines its bias reporting procedures, links to its bias reporting form, and states the following: "The personal display to other members of the university community on campus, or during the course of a Shenandoah program, of clothing, flags, or other items that depict historically discriminatory symbols, such as those used by hate groups, including without limitation Nazi and Confederate imagery, is prohibited under this policy."

  • The university hosted an "Anti-Racism And Equity Forum" in July 2020.
  • Oshiro was invtied to lead the "National Series Of Anti-Racism Workshops"as part of the "Race & #RealTalk program."
  • One of the university's "Diversity Action Items" is to "[b]uild cultural competence on and off campus through educational experiences."
  • Shenandoah Conservatory outlines its inclusion, diversity, and equity strategic plan which includes the following actions: "[N]ew processes/standards in all faculty searches, initiatives at the program level to reimagine curriculum, recruitment initiatives, efforts to shape performance programming, and ongoing faculty conversations around race/racism, to the promotion of bias reporting."
