"Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, UTHSC offers four undergraduate and more than 30 graduate or professional degrees, and has more than 50 endowed professorships, including 19 Chairs of Excellence" (Source: https://www.uthsc.edu/about/index.php). Furthermore, "our Colleges of Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Health Professions , Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy serve more than 3,000 students and 1,300 residents, post docs and fellows across four campuses" (Source: https://www.uthsc.edu/). Founded in 1911, the school has a student to faculty ratio of 7 to 1.
General Information
The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center has created an Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity. Furthermore, a Diversity Certificate Program was created as an opportunity of training for the campus community. At this time, no mandatory Critical Race Training is required. However, see developments below:

Actions Taken

Admissions Policies
  • On June 30, 2023, UTHSC issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court's ruling on affirmative action which reads: "Our focus on access, retention and engagement, as well as our commitment to the mission of the UT System remains unchanged:  to serve all Tennesseans and beyond through education, discovery and outreach. We will be sharing more details about the possible impact of Supreme Court’s recent ruling as more information becomes available to us."
Anti-Racism, Bias, and Diversity Training
  • UTHSC offers a Diversity Certificate Program which is a "training opportunity for faculty, staff, trainees, and students and is in alignment with the Chancellor’s priority on Equity and Inclusion."
Resources
  • UTHSC has an Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity.
  • UTHSC offers resources for "structural racism in health care. One such resource is a work by Ibram X. Kendi, author of "How to Be an Anti-Racist."
Symbolic Actions
  • On June 5, 2020, UTHSC held an event titled "White Coats for Black Lives" to stand in solidarity for the death of George Floyd.
