- General Information
- The University of Texas, San Antonio has taken steps to re-evaluate and re-imagine its relationship with its police department. The university is considering increased use of "community policing", although the exact form of community policing that will be used is not yet known. No mandatory Critical Race Training sessions are yet required of students. However, see developments below:

The University Career Center hosted a training titled "Create Inclusive Content: Identifying and Preventing Racism in Your Marketing." The course teaches "how to identify and educate yourself on racist elements in content" and "how to accept responsibility for racist content—both internally and externally—and how it caused harm to others."

- Curriculum Changes and Requirements

The Social Work Program 2024 Catalog requires "SWK 2013: Diversity and Social Justice in San Antonio and Beyond" which "explores how diversity and intersectionality shape human experience within the context of the societal and historical roots of social and racial injustices."

The Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Sexuality Studies states, "Our Curriculum reflects diasporic, decolonial, and intersectional approaches toward race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality studies in education." The department's courses, "address current social movements and culture such as courses on Selena and Black Lives Matter." Furthermore, "Faculty not only teach about social movements but are participants in these movements."

The Public Safety Department has a statement on "Racial Profiling" which states the university "prohibits the use of racial profiling and provides a complaint process for those who believe they have been stopped or searched based on racial, ethnic or national origin profiling."

- Political Actions and Support for Anti-Racism

Due to Senate Bill 17, the Office of Inclusive Excellence has shut down, which was made effective January 1, 2024.

In 2020, the Faculty Senate released a statement in support of BLM and against "racial injustice, police brutality, antiblackness and institutional racism." Furthermore, the statement condemns the "country’s long history of white supremacy." The Faculty Senate stated, "It is time for us to admit to our role in this disparate and unjust reality and pledge to integrate anti-racism pedagogy in our classrooms, support black-centered curriculum, revamp policies that uphold structural racism, and advocate for initiatives that support Black faculty." The statement included a number of recommendations for the school.

- Program and Research Funding

On January 15, 2021, UTSA received a three-year, $5 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the Democratizing Racial Justice project on campus to address racism and inequality.

UTSA's "Institute for Health Disparities Research" works to "help achieve health equity." Furthermore, the institute is funded by the National Institute on Aging "to promote research on Minority Aging Research, with a special (but not unique) focus on Hispanic populations."

The College of Education and Human Development at UTSA has a "Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies." The department states, "Our curriculum, research, creative scholarship and service to the community reflect our diasporic, decolonial and intersectional approach toward the study of race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality in education, humanities, music and the arts, and the social sciences." The students and staff state that they "strive toward equality and social justice" through the department.

In March 2022, Professor Zhongfeng Tian won a "competitive anti-racism seed grant" totaling $11,000 from the American Educational Research Association. The grant funded the design and implementation of "an eight-week anti-racist biliteracy program." Regarding the project, he stated, “This is not a new problem, anti-Asian racism, it’s part of US history.” He continued, “It’s just that COVID-19 awakened people’s awareness that we need to stand in solidarity with different minoritized communities to fight against systemic racism together.”

The UTSA Library has a Black Lives Matter resource guide and reading lists, which feature books such as "How to Be an Antiracist" by Ibram X. Kendi and "So You Want to Talk about Race" by Ijeoma Oluo.

In 2024, the university abandoned plans to create a replacement for its shutdown DEI office a few months after it announced the DEI office closure. UTSA stated that the "office’s responsibilities will now be given to existing offices at the university."

The Democratizing Racial Justice Project provides "internships, fellowships, teaching academies, and more to explore greater understanding" through "scholarly research-based resources via community-based endeavors to envision and realize racial justice." The center hosts many events and resources.

The UTSA Library provides K-12 teaching resources on Black Lives Matter. A video titled "Elmo and his dad Louie talk about racism and protesting" is listed in the pre-k resources, along with several curriculum guides and reading lists for elementary, junior high, and high school.

UTSA and the rest of the UT System adopted a new policy to comply with section 51.3525 of the Texas Education Code Regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The university also offers "SB17 Training (TEC §51.3525)" on how faculty and staff can ensure they comply with the law.

The Chair of the Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Sexuality Studies stated, "The faculty and staff are dedicated to working with students and communities toward racial, gender, class, and sexual equality." He continued, "We believe that in these trying times our work is needed more than ever to seek solutions to systemic racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and health disparities that are disproportionally affecting our communities."
