Anti-Racism, Bias, and Diversity Training
  • The school hosts several programs and workshops, such as the “Diversity 101 Workshop” and the “Implicit Bias and Intervention Workshop” offered to students.
Curriculum Changes and Requirements
  • As part of the Strategic Plan, the school will “[support] a program-by-program review in order to build more inclusive curricula.”
Resources
  • The 2019 Pop Culture conference had several speakers grounded in Critical Race Theory.
  • Law school elective courses use a CRT framework.
  • In a June 30, 2023 Detroit Free Press article titled "Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action extends ban to private colleges in Michigan," Wayne State University spokesman Matt Lockwood was quoted as stating the following: "'[Our] institution has worked hard within the law to ensure access and opportunity to deserving students from underserved backgrounds since 2006 when the state of Michigan banned the use of race in admissions. This has made Wayne State a leader in social mobility, which benefits our students, our graduates, and our state'."
  • The Wayne State University School of Social Work has a Committee on Antiracism, Diversity, and Social Justice known as CADS which hosts several events, trainings, and resources.
  • The school has an Office of Multicultural Student Engagement.
  • According to the Strategic Plan, the school will “[launch] a future faculty program to build faculty diversity at the department/disciplinary level.”
Symbolic Actions
  • The university has declared its commitment to DEI and anti-racism initiatives and provided resources.
  • The Office of DEI has a DEI Council, which was established on July 27, 2023. The purpose of the council is to “ foster anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion at Wayne State University by assessing and reporting on the institution’s progress in these domains and by offering strategic advice to the Associate Provost and Chief Diversity Officer.”
  • In Fall of 2022, the school developed its 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, where DEI was a “strategic focus.”
