Curriculum Changes and Requirements
  • One of the curriculum goals of the school's Spring 2022 Equity and Inclusion Report is to "Increase learning about the roots and contemporary manifestations of social injustice, privilege, oppression and the drivers of social change."
Program and Research Funding
  • The school's Spring 2022 Equity and Inclusion Report states the following: "The Inclusive Excellence Teaching Lab was granted $93,265. The funds will allow the IETL to expand its work to develop and deploy Communities of Practice to address various aspects of teaching and learning. It will also help support the Inclusive Excellence Summer Assembly in 2022."
Resources
  • On August 6, 2021, "Quinnipiac Today" published an article entitled "Medical students urged to treat patients with dignity, respect while being mindful of bias" and quotes Kumba Hinds M.D., a primary care physician, as saying, "Look at COVID-19. The disproportionate impact it has had on communities of color is frankly sinful and highlights the role that social determinants of health — things like racism — play."
  • The school's Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity is "responsible for designing and implementing initiatives that foster an inclusive and excellence-driven community, conducting research and scholarship on equity, inclusion and diversity, and recruiting and retaining a diverse student body."
  • The school's Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity is "charged" with "Conducting research and scholarship on key topics."
Symbolic Actions
  • On June 29, 2023, the school signed on to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision regarding race-conscious admission policies, which stated the following: “We are deeply disappointed with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to dismantle its longstanding precedent in the 2003 case, Grutter v. Bollinger, which had recognized student body diversity as a compelling interest permitting the limited consideration of race in admissions. Today’s decision demonstrates a lack of understanding of the critical benefits of racial and ethnic diversity in educational settings and a failure to recognize the urgent need to address health inequities in our country.”
  • On July 7, 2023, the school published its response to the Supreme Court's decision regarding race-conscious admission policies and stated "Our undergraduate admissions and financial aid processes do not use race as a criterion for admissions or award of financial aid...We do use data and statistical analysis to determine if deliberate programs are needed to eradicate disparities that correlate with, and hinder the advancement of, race, ethnicity or gender.”
