On October 15, 2019, the school held an event titled "trust and Authenticity: Building Sustained Relationships with Our Colleagues and Those We Serve," which featured Dave McIntosh, PhD, Vice President and Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. McIntosh's research "examines race and oppression utilizing phenomenology and critical race theory, as well as assessment and campus climate."

The school's Liaison Committee on Racial & Social Justice in Medical Education is a "student-led committee established in response to Tulane University School of Medicine’s (TUSOM) Call to Action, denouncing the murder of George Floyd and our country’s extensive history of racial and social injustice." The primary aim of the committee is to "enhance education in racial and social justice across the curriculum by reviewing curricular content, providing feedback, and offering recommendations." The school's Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, in response to the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, has committed to a "more focused effort to become an anti-racist section and to intensify our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts." The Department has "developed a process for working towards a Strategic Plan for DEI in Tulane Child and Adolescent Psychiatry," formed a steering committee, and created "four committees, Recruitment and Retention (faculty, trainees and staff), Self-Improvement, Clinical Training and Community Engagement."
