"East Texas Baptist University’s legacy, beginning with the establishment of the College of Marshall over 100 years ago, remains committed to Christ by meeting students where they are and propelling them to where God has called them to be. With another year of record enrollment, ETBU continues to proclaim God’s truths and equip His disciples as described in the mission statement" (Source: https://www.etbu.edu/about-etbu). Founded in 1912, the university has 75 full-time faculty with a student to faculty ratio of 15 to 1. The university offers 45 undergraduate programs and 11 graduate programs. The total undergraduate enrollment is over 1,500.
General Information
ETBU has created an Office of Multicultural Affairs in order to provide resources on diversity. A few courses discussing race, diversity, and inclusion are offered. At this time, no mandatory Critical Race Training is required. However, see developments below:

Actions Taken

Curriculum Changes and Requirements
  • A course on Equity and Diversity in Education is required as a foundation course for the Teacher Certification, Curriculum and Instruction, and Sports Leadership Specializations.
Resources
  • ETBU has an Office of Multicultural Affairs which is home to organizations for minorities. The Office also hosts numerous events related to multiculturalism.
Symbolic Actions
  • On June 1, 2020, East Texas Baptist University released a statement on Twitter in response to the death of George Floyd.
  • The Office of Multicultural Affairs at ETBU exists in order to "ensure all minorities on campus are represented in social organizations, honors programs, or other areas of interest."
  • According to a February 2022 ETBU News article, the Student Leadership Advisory Board was "established during the summer of 2020 to aid in forming new opportunities for minority students and to promote ethnic diversity and multicultural education."
