"Located in Barnesville, Ga., Gordon State College offers 11 four-year degrees and 16 associate-level degrees, which include multiple baccalaureate pathways. With an enrollment of approximately 3,500 students, Gordon State offers an intimate academic setting in state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. In this setting, students receive individualized attention that only a small college with dedicated faculty and staff can provide. Founded in 1852, Gordon State College joined the University System of Georgia in 1972 and continues a distinctive legacy of excellent scholarship and service" (Source: https://www.gordonstate.edu/about/index.html). The school has a student to faculty ratio of 22 to 1. The campus size is 236 acres.
General Information
Gordon State College has engaged in DEI initiatives by creating a Presidential Commission on DEI. The college also offers several courses that discuss race and DEI. At this time, no mandatory Critical Race Training is required. However, see developments below:

Program and Research Funding
  • On November 7, 2023, Gordon State News announced that the college received a "total gift of $500,000" from several foundations in order to "help underrepresented students pursue STEM degrees."

  • In 2020, Gordon State College announced that it created a Presidential Commission on DEI which will "review issues and policies regarding the institution's strategic plan and promote a more diverse and inclusive campus community."
  • On August 23, 2021, Gordon announced that the school "has been selected for the second time to participate in the Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge, a program supported by the Stevens Initiative, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, administered by the Aspen Institute, and implemented by IREX." The Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge works towards promoting DEI goals.
  • On July 8, 2021, Gordon announced that the college named Jerry Oliver, Jr. as the new Director of Student Success. The new director "has over 10 years of experience in higher education, teaching, and diversity training."
