- Millsaps was founded by the Methodist Church in 1890. "Millsaps is a selective undergraduate institution located on 100 beautiful acres in the heart of Jackson, the capital of Mississippi—a progressive southern metropolitan city of nearly half a million population. The city of Jackson is served by an international airport with six passenger airlines and Interstate highways 55 and 20" (Source: https://www.millsaps.edu/admissions/about-millsaps/). The student faculty ratio is 9 to 1. Millsaps offers 33 majors and 47 minors and its total undergraduate enrollment is 665.
- General Information
- Millsaps recently rolled out a podcast series for "Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation." A $15,000 grant was given to support this project. Millsaps has also highlighted other DEI and CRT projects. At this time, no mandatory Critical Race Training is required of students. However, see developments below:

Though the event was eventually cancelled, Millsaps had planned an event for the 2020 Principals' Institute Intentional Leadership, and one of the featured speakers was an expert on Critical Race Theory.

As part of the Dunbar Lecture series, on February 21, 2023, the University held a lecture on how “systemic racism has been and continues to be intertwined with environmental destruction” and how the “fight for climate justice must also be a fight against systemic racism and other forms of systemic inequity.”

Millsaps President Pearigen discussed the college’s efforts towards diversity and stated that “Millsaps’ mission statement claims our dedication to open inquiry and free expression, and our legacy includes striving for social justice, diversity and inclusion.”

As part of the Strategic Plan for Millsaps, the college is dedicated to expanding and increasing the diversity of the student body as well as the support for a more diverse student body.

On June 2, 2020, Millsaps released a statement saying, "Sadly, the senseless death of George Floyd on May 25 and the ensuing peaceful protests with some turning riotous have brought to light heightened disorder - near complete disorder - with all of us struggling with how to address the feelings of fear, grief and despair."
